J&R Housing
J & R Housing is an 18-36 month nonprofit housing program offering a full spectrum of support and opportunities for former foster and probation youth including housing, educational mentoring and assistance, career/vocational counseling and development, life skills training and health education all aimed at increasing youth’s self-sufficiency.
Our Story
James Poindexter was abandoned at 10 years old and went into the foster care system where he stayed until he aged out at 18. From 18 he entered independent living and had huge success.
Within the time he was in independent living he went to college where he graduated with two college degrees and also became a member of the USA Martial Arts Team and a World Martial Arts Champion.
He began speaking about his life to inspire other teens who aged out of the system to keep pushing for success. He created a company called JH Brands for speaking and coaching foster kids and parents.
He also developed a training called The Do’s & Don’ts of Foster Care From A Kids Eyes. This training connects foster parents with their teenage foster kids
He then wrote a #1 Amazon Bestselling Book called Your Amazing Itty Bitty Foster & Adoptive Parent Guide: 15 Key Steps to Successfully Connect With Your Foster Or Adopted Teen. James’s wife Renee fully supported James’s passion for helping teens and helped behind the scenes as CFO to make JH Brands profitable.
Naseem used his top selling skills to help James advertise and get speaking gigs through negotiations. This team of All-Stars is now on a misson to focus even more on helping teens be able to make it in the independent world by becoming THP-PLUS Providers. They will provide housing, mentorship and other services to help their participants go from being in the system to becoming outstanding citizens with jobs and advanced education.
